Man Arrested After Waving Gun In I-93 Road Rage Fight: PD

An Avon man was arrested after waving a gun at a driver on I-93, State Police said. The other driver may have waved a knife, police said.

BRAINTREE, MA — A road rage incident came to an end near Route 3 in Braintree when an Avon man was arrested Wednesday after waving a gun at the other driver, State Police said. Daniel Bates, 33, was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct, and disturbing the peace.

Around 7:45 a.m., the incident started on Interstate 93 south in Dorchester, where police said the two drivers began fighting. According to police, Bates waved a gun at a Honda, while both drove down I-93. Police said the other driver, a 42-year-old Boston man waved a knife.

The Boston man called 911 and remained on the line, allowing State Police to find both men on Hancock Street in Braintree. Police said they seized a handgun from Bates and a folding knife from the other driver.

Bates is scheduled to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court Wednesday afternoon. State Police are also considering charging the Boston man.
