Mural Created by Dozens of Students Celebrated with Braintree High Presentation

The completion of a “Community” themed ceramic mural installation at was celebrated with a public reception on the evening of Wednesday, May 9. This massive project, twelve feet by six feet, is a celebration of community life through the eyes of a high school student. Small tiles of glass and mirror combine with the ceramic in a sparkling, eye popping composite of images, including students participating in school and civic activities like and the Relay for Life. Landmarks of , Braintree and Braintree High School are also featured.

Over one hundred students in the 3D design classes, supplemented by efforts from the After School Clay Club and other participants worked under the guidance of Cambridge artist David Fichter and 3D Design teacher Johanna Chase who conceived the project and applied for the funding. Fichter, the visiting artist in residence, and Chase led students through the process of converting their ideas and sketches into hand carved relief tiles. The project was financed by a Massachusetts Cultural Council STARS grant, a Braintree Cultural Council grant, and support from local businesses and civic organizations. The work can be viewed at the Braintree High School, Ewing mezzanine.
