Office for Civil Rights Investigating Braintree Schools

A complaint alleges that the school district has not provided translated documents for families with parents that don't speak English.

BRAINTREE, MA — The Braintree Public Schools are facing allegations that they have not provided an adequate level of interpretation for non-English-speaking parents of special education students.

In May, a complain was filed with the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights. The complaint, along with a second one for the Lawrence school system, allege that the schools failed to provide parents with translated documents.

Braintree Superintendent Frank Hackett told the Boston Globe that they are working with the Office for Civil Rights, working to increase access to programs and services for families who are not fluent in English, and translating more school documents.
