Plymouth Man Sentenced For Braintree Bank Break-In

Stephen Reddy admitted to disabling the bank's security cameras and prying open the room which held the ATM safe.

BRAINTREE, MA — A Plymouth man was sentenced to three to five years in state prison and two years probation Wednesday, after pleading guilty to breaking into a Braintree bank in the middle of the night back in January. Stephen Reddy, 37, was convicted of breaking and entering at night, breaking and entering into a depository, and possession of burglarious tools.

Around 2 a.m. on Jan. 14, Reddy broke into Envision Bank on Rockdale Street, said police. When officers arrived, they heard Reddy behind the wall of an ATM vestibule, police told the Patriot Ledger.

He tried running away, but police said they caught up to him after a brief chase. A K-9 unit, which helped track down Reddy, bit him, according to police. Reddy was treated for minor injuries.

Reddy disabled the bank's security cameras, according to police. Doors inside were damaged and in the ATM room, police told the Patriot Ledger they found a drill bit, claw bars, and other burglarious tools.

Prosecutors asked Norfolk Superior Court Judge Douglas Wilkins to sentence Reddy to six to eight years in prison because he was on probation when the break-in occurred. The defense asked for either two years of probation or one year added to a two-year sentence for breaking probation.
