Seach For New Braintree Police Chief Gets Underway

The job could pay as much as $247,000 a year.

BRAINTREE, MA — A week after naming an interim police chief, the town has begun searching for a long-term successor.

The Braintree Police Department is currently led by Robert Joseph, the deputy chief who became acting chief after the departure of Chief Timothy Cohoon.

The town is looking for someone with “a reputation for building and maintaining community trust, and significant experience with community policing,” according to a job description posted late Wednesday.

The post would pay an annual salary between $155,000 and more than $185,000. With additional incentives, the new chief could earn as much as $247,000 a year.

Braintree’s police force includes more than 100 sworn officers and civilian employees.

Mayor Erin Joyce said she will soon appoint a screening committee to review applications for the job. They are due March 20, and more information is available here.
