South Shore Plaza Shooting Suspect Charged: Braintree Police
Braintree police said Jose Rodriguez, 21, of Boston, is charged with assault to murder after teen girl was struck with a bullet at the mall.

BRAINTREE, MA — Braintree police have charged a Boston man with assault to murder, and several firearms charges, in connection with the South Shore Plaza shooting that left a 15-year-old girl injured and triggered a shelter-in-place order in the area on Friday.
Braintree Chief Mark Dubois announced on Saturday that Jose Rodriguez, 21, was being held without bail at the Braintree Police Department and will be arraigned at Quincy District Court via video. He was scheduled to be transferred to the Norfolk County Sheriff's Department on Saturday.
Police said a second suspect taken into custody on Friday has been released. Additional charges may be filed.

Police responded to South Shore Plaza about 4:45 p.m. on Friday when they said the shooting took place after two groups in the mall got into a fight. The 15-year-old girl, who was a bystander, suffered what police said are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said the mall was placed on lock-down and area residents were told to shelter in place.

Police said Rodriguez and the second man taken into custody were found on Granite Street near the mall, and that police found a gun outside of the mall.
The mall, which was closed Friday night, opened at its normal time on Saturday.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
