Let me introduce you to Lieutenant (LT) Renato DePaolis, a Massachusetts native whose professional track record includes not just outstanding work performance, but continued contributions to his community through volunteer work, culminating in being named the Navy’s 2011 Medical Officer Recruiter of the Year.
Raised in North Attleborough, Mass., LT DePaolis was attending Tufts University when the events of September 11th would forever inspire him to change his course in life and pursue a higher sense of service. After graduating from college in 2003, LT DePaolis joined the United States Navy and headed to Naval Air Station Pensacola for flight training as a pilot. Medically discharged during training, LT DePaolis utilized benefits provided through the Post-9/11 GI Bill to enroll at Boston College (BC) Law School. But it wasn’t long before LT DePaolis found another way to be a part of America’s Navy.

As part of the Canvasser Recruiter (CANREC) Program with the United States Navy, LT DePaolis has been able to pursue his legal education while supporting the Navy Reserve recruiting mission. As a CANREC, LT DePaolis helps civilian medical professionals become Navy health care officers, joining a vast caregiving network that supports the diverse needs of service members and their families and spreads goodwill and good health to people in need at home and abroad.
“I’m able to help people pursue their passion for helping others … on base, at sea or wherever duty calls,” says LT DePaolis, “The Navy Medical Corps is a highly respected team that participates in medical relief efforts across our country and around the globe, serving victims of everything from sickness to combat, from disease to poverty, and from hurricanes to earthquakes.”

Today, LT DePaolis is proud to be celebrating both personal and professional success with the completion of his Juris Doctor and recognition as the Navy’s 2011 Medical Officer Recruiter of the Year. The Recruiter of the Year Award recognizes the most accomplished and successful recruiters across the country, who recruit the best men and women for America's Navy to fulfill today's missions and meet tomorrow's challenges. But his professional accomplishments are only one component of this award-winning Sailor’s profile. A dedicated community volunteer, LT DePaolis lives the Navy’s motto, “A Global Force for Good,” by supporting various service organizations including the New England Center for Homeless Veterans and the BC Law School Veterans Association.
