Are You Following Brookline's Leaf Blower Laws?

The town has several noise regulations in place.

Fall is nearly here—and that means the leaf blowers are coming out.

Brookline has several regulations regarding the machines:

  • Gas-powered leaf blowers are only allowed between Sept. 15 and Dec. 15 and between March 15 and May 15
  • Leaf blowers are only allowed between the hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mon. through Fri. and between 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays
  • Leaf blowers must operate at a noise level of 67 decibels or less
  • Police and town officials can request that a person submit his/her leaf blower for testing if the machine does not have a town sticker or appears damaged or modified

Starting Sept. 23, free noise testing will be held at the DPW facility on Hammond Street on Tuesdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A sticker will be affixed to the machine indicating it’s allowed to be used in town.
