Glass beads have been made for more than 5,000 years and come in all shapes, colors, finishes, and appearances. In this class we will explore the ancient art form of glass beadmaking, using the best of modern equipment and supplies. In just four hours you will learn the fundamental skills needed to produce your own assortment of beads. Students will each have their own workstation, and will be provided with a torch, tools, supplies, and glass. We'll cover safety and equipment operation, basics of hot glass manipulation, "wound" glass or mandrel bead making, glass color usage, and surface decoration. You'll make beads to take home, and if time permits, we may also work on buttons, brooches, or pendants.
