Mortar acts as a cushion between bricks so they don’t bear directly on each other. When mortar is lost over time, the integrity of the structure is compromised. In this workshop, you will learn to repoint (replace lost mortar) and develop a working knowledge of the properties of brick and mortar. We will discuss different types of mortar and their applications, tools needed, preparing the work area, and handling and applying mortar. We will be repointing brick steps at a home in Roslindale.
