Former Ribelle Location to Become Smaller Painted Burro: Report

Alpine Group will reportedly open a smaller version of the Davis Square mainstay at the site of the now-defunct Brookline eatery.

BROOKLINE, MA – Brookline restaurant Ribelle may be closed, but the space left by the trendy eatery won't remain vacant for long.

An offshoot of Somerville's Painted Burro is planned for the site, according to a Boston Globe report.

A rep for the Alpine Restaurant Group's Joe Cassinelli told the Globe that the Burro Bar, a "smaller sibling" to the Painted Burro, is expected to open in late fall or early winter.

Ribelle, the Beacon Street eatery helmed by restauranteur Timothy Maslow, served its last meal on July 2. At the time, Maslow told the Globe that he sold the restaurant to an unnamed buyer.

A picture posted on Ribelle's Instagram account at the end of the night, saying "Gone Fishin'" with a peace sign emoji, confirmed the closure.

Ribelle generated significant buzz upon its 2013 opening as the first solo venture of Maslow, who had previously taken over his father’s Watertown diner, Strip-T’s.

A critical darling, it earned a highly-coveted four-star review from the Boston Globe and landed Maslow on one of Food and Wine’s best new chefs lists of last year, according to Boston Eater.

Maslow will continue to work with his father at the elder Maslow's Watertown restaurant, Strip-T's, and cook at Tiger Mama in Fenway.
