Burlington Community Concert Series kicks it up a notch with three spectacular groups coming up in 2017
Celebrate Ella's 100th, swing to sounds of world famous big band and blow the roof off with 9X Grammy winner Texas country & swing band
If you’re looking for some spectacular performances this coming year, make sure to focus your attention on the Fogelberg Performing Arts Center and the Burlington Community Concert Series beginning in February. The BCCS is gearing up for concerts that will feature a world renown jazz songstress celebrating the centennial year of “First Lady of Song,” Ella Fitzgerald, the most sought after concert and swing dance band in the world that is back-by-popular demand, and a nine time Grammy Award winning Texas country and western swing band that will blow the roof off!
On February 3, 2017, at 7:30 pm, THE CAPITAL JAZZ ORCHESTRA (Clayton “Skip” Poole, Music Director), will present “A Centennial Celebration of the ‘First Lady of Song,’ Ella Fitzgerald,” featuring Count Basie Orchestra vocalist and Ella Fitzgerald protégé, CARMEN BRADFORD. Ms. Bradford will perform original versions of Ella’s early hits such as “A Tiskit, A Tasket,” will continue with unique vocal interpretations on classics like “Honeysuckle Rose,” “Sweet Georgia Brown,” and will spice it up with other selections made famous from the Great American Songbook. The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra will return to Burlington by popular demand for the third year running on Sunday, May 14 at 3:00 pm. A special Mother’s Day performance, Nick Hilscher leads the group through all-time favorites with the help of jazz vocalist Maria Schafer. With its unique jazz sound, the Glenn Miller Orchestra is considered to be one of the greatest bands of all time and continues to be the most sought after big band in the world today for both concert and swing dance engagements. Get ready for a whole lot of country in the final BCCS concert this year when nine-time Grammy Award winning country group ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL takes the stage and blows the roof off on Friday, June 9, at 7:30 pm. Known for their Texas country and western swing style, ASLEEP has been on the scene for over 40 years and has featured a slew of country elite in its ranks over the years. Inducted into the 2015 Austin City Limits Hall of Fame, ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL has released more than 25 studio and live albums.
