Celebrating over 90 years of excellence in fashion education, The School of Fashion Design is the only educational institution in New England dedicated exclusively to the study of fashion design. SFD provides students with a solid foundation in apparel design and construction, and the skills required for a successful career in fashion. Our technical Certificate program is taught by experts in the field of fashion design. Students may take courses toward the Certificate or on a class-by-class basis to fill professional education interests. For creatives and textile arts enthusiasts, SFD offers workshops in various fiber arts such as weaving, lace making, embroidery, millinery, upcycling, and more. As an SFD student, you will join a diverse community of emerging designers. Dr. Benjamin Remillard will discuss the role of New England’s people of color in the Revolution, what drew them to the Patriot or Loyalist causes, as well as what life was like for them and their communities after the war as the new nation struggled to find its footing.Benjamin Remillard is a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of History and Classics at Providence College. He recently received his Ph.D. in History from the University of New Hampshire and his current book project, Friends, Brothers, and Citizens: The Revolutionary War Veterans of Color Who Shaped the Early Republic, explores the lives of the Revolution’s veterans and non-veteran Patriots of color who lived across the Northeast during the early American republic.
