DA Identifies Beating Death Victim, Asks for Help

The homeless man found unconscious in Paul Revere Park on Monday May 21 has been identified as Normand Varieur.

District Attorney Daniel F. Conley is still looking for help from Charlestown residents in the investigation of the of a .

During the press availability, Conley named the crime’s victim, Normand Varieur, a homeless originally from Maine, and offered a description.

Varieur was a white man who stood 5-feet seven-inches tall, Conley said, with gray hair and a gray beard.

“Anyone who saw him—or even more helpful, saw him talking or interacting with someone—here on Sunday, May 20 is urged to let us know,” Conley said in a prepared statement.

Conley spoke to reporters in Paul Revere Park, just feet from where a state worker spotted Varieur on Monday, May 21.

Police responded to the scene and took Varieur, then unconscious with the head would that would kill him, to Massachusetts General Hospital. Varieur was later identified by his fingerprints, Conley said, because he carried no identification.

“Based on medical, forensic and other evidence developed thus far, we believe he sustained that injury on Sunday, May 20 during the afternoon or evening,” Conley said.

He added that Varieur suffered other injuries that he chose not to disclose for the sake of the investigation’s integrity.
