Recent Rash of Killings Leaves Boston Shaken

Five people across the Boston area were shot and killed Wednesday night, leaving Mayor Walsh "saddened and disturbed."

Many residents across Boston, including Mayor Marty Walsh, find themselves shaken up following Wednesday night’s outbreak of violence.

Five people across the Boston area, including three within the city’s own neighborhoods, were shot and killed in what are believed to be unrelated incidents. Several others were wounded in the shootings.

One man, in his 20s, was fatally shot in Mattapan. Two men, also in their 20s, were shot and killed on the Roxbury-Jamaica Plain line.

Just outside the city, a man was shot to death in Cambridge outside of a hotel and a woman was shot to death in Everett near a restaurant.

Walsh said he was extremely “saddened and disturbed” by the news. Walsh also said the senseless violence needs to be brought to an immediate end.

The mayor released the following statement on the overnight slayings:

“I am extremely saddened and disturbed by the violence that took place overnight in our community; this has to stop. It is my utmost priority to ensure the safety of our residents and it is important that we continue to work together with families and youth throughout our neighborhoods, to get them on alternative pathways to success. I express my deepest condolences to the families and friends of those who were lost during these senseless acts of violence. A thorough investigation is being carried out by the Boston Police.”
