Tape Thief Said he Would Have Stolen Cruiser if he Could Have

Suspect allegedly told police: "I broke into the police car and if the keys were in it … I would have taken it."

Boston Police arrested a man in Charlestown, Sunday, after he allegedly stole police property from a cruiser.

While officers were at 25 Corey Street convincing an unwanted drunk man to leave the area, Brian McIntyre, 47, of Boston, allegedly entered one of the department's police cars and stole a roll of yellow crime scene tape.

According to BPDNews.com, several witnesses saw McIntyre rummaging through the vehicle.

Officers chased him down and found him a short time later—standing over a roll of yellow crime scene tape.

When asked about the tape, McIntyre allegedly delivered this defense: “I broke into the police car and if the keys were in it … I would have taken it.”

Police did not say whether or not McIntyre was intoxicated, but the entire event took place shortly after 3 a.m. on Sunday.
