School starts in just a couple of weeks in Chelmsford. If you just moved to town and need to register your child for school, here’s what you need to know courtesy of the Chelmsford Public Schools.

When’s the first day of school in Chelmsford?

For families moving to Chelmsford, to register your child for school in town, you need to head to the Office of the Central Registrar, located at 230 North Road. Summer student registrations are accepted from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

In order to register your child, you’ll need to present the following documentation at the time of registration:

  • A driver’s license or passport,
  • Proof of residency, which can include: proof of home ownership (a copy of your mortgage statement), OR a purchase and sale agreement, OR a signed lease agreement, OR a notarized ‘Affidavit Supporting Residence’ document with the homeowner’s real estate tax bill,
  • A utility bill showing your name and street address,
  • Your child’s birth certificate and proof of physical exam within one year of entering school or within 30 days after school entry.
  • Certificate of lead poisoning and updated immunizations.

Keep in mind, children entering kindergarten must be 5 years of age on or before Oct. 1, 2015. Students entering first grade must be 6 years of age on or before Oct. 1, 2015.
