4-7 Inches of Snow Sunday Could Make for Snowiest Winter Ever in Boston Area
Boston has received 102 inches of snow this winter as of Friday; the all-time record is 107 inches set in 1995/1996.

Another snowstorm Sunday could push the Boston area over the top for its snowiest winter in recorded history.
Four to 7 inches of snow is on the way starting Sunday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service, which issued a winter storm watch.
The snowiest winter in recorded history for Boston was 1995/1996, when 107.6 inches of snow fell. So far this winter, Boston has received 102 inches.

The snow has wreaked havoc on the region, shutting down the MBTA, causing roof collapses, and forcing school officials to cancel classes—sometimes for as many as seven days.

- A WINTER STORM WATCH IS IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE SUNDAY NIGHT... THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TAUNTON HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE SUNDAY NIGHT.
- LOCATIONS...ALONG AND SOUTH OF THE MASSACHUSETTS TURNPIKE EXCLUDING THE IMMEDIATE SOUTH COAST. THIS INCLUDES NORTHEAST CONNECTICUT...NORTHERN RHODE ISLAND AND SOUTHEAST MASSACHUSETTS AWAY FROM THE IMMEDIATE SOUTH COAST. THE HARTFORD...PROVIDENCE AND BOSTON METROPOLITAN AREAS ARE INCLUDED IN THE WATCH.
- ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 4 TO 7 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE.
- TIMING...LIGHT SNOW DEVELOPS DURING THE MID TO LATE AFTERNOON HOURS ON SUNDAY. THE SNOW WILL THEN PICKUP IN INTENSITY SUNDAY EVENING...PERHAPS FALLING AT AN INCH PER HOUR AT TIMES SUNDAY NIGHT. THE SNOW WILL COME TO AN END BY DAYBREAK MONDAY. ALTHOUGH THE SNOW WILL HAVE COME TO AN END BY THE MONDAY MORNING RUSH HOUR...UNTREATED ROADS WILL REMAIN SNOW COVERED AND SLIPPERY.
