Author Talk: Voices from American Prisons: Faith, Education and Healing, by Kaia Stern
Wednesday, November 16th at 7:00 p.m. at Concord Free Public Library (129 Main Street)
CONCORD – Author Kaia Stern will be speaking about her book, Voices from American Prisons: Faith, Education and Healing (Routledge, 2014), on Wednesday, November 16th at the Concord Free Public Library. The talk will begin at 7pm, and will be followed by a book signing.
Stern is an educator with 22 years of experience working across multiple domains. Currently Executive Director of Concord Prison Outreach, her work focuses on transformative justice, dignity and education in prison. Her book introduces the voices of people living, working and studying in U.S. Prisons and offers an analysis of penal confinement as well as avenues for reform.
Stern has taught at Sing Sing, Norfolk, and Framingham prisons as well as Emory University, New York Theological Seminary, and the University of California. She is currently Visiting Faculty at the Harvard University Graduate School of Education. She is ordained as an interfaith minister, holds a Doctorate in Religion from Emory University, and an M.A. of Theological Studies from the Harvard Divinity School.
