Concord Academy Packs 40,000 Meals for Stop Hunger Now

Members of the Concord Academy (CA) community pack meals for Stop Hunger Now, an event sponsored by Sodexo.

On the afternoon of Sunday, April 12, members of the Concord Academy (CA) community -- parents, students, faculty, staff, alumnae/i and their children -- gathered in the gym to pack meals for Stop Hunger Now, a non-profit focused on realizing a world without hunger by providing food and life changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable.

The event was hosted by CA Parents in partnership with CA’s Engagement Office and CA’s Office of Community Life, and co-chaired by Lisa Fitzgibbons and Amy Simon.

The work was sponsored by Sodexo, the international food services corporation and Concord Academy’s food service partner, and supported through donations from Concord Teacakes, as well as Flour, and Lakota Bakery.

For nearly two hours, over 250 volunteers packaged 40,176 meals destined for organizations in developing countries. These meals will help not only address hunger, but also promote education, encourage children to attend school, improve students’ health and nutrition, address gender inequalities, stimulate economic growth, and fight child labor.

“Through this generous donation of people’s time and effort, Concord Academy’s shared mission came alive,” said Kim Williams, President of the Board for Concord Academy. “At the core of the CA experience is a shared dedication to, as the school’s mission reads, ‘balance individual freedom with responsibility and service to a larger community.’”

The afternoon was the first in a series of similar events as a part of CA’s CAService initiative, being launched to harness the energies of the wider CA community towards shared projects that will benefit others. These initiatives will add further testament to a common value shared by the Concord Academy community.
