Concord Submits Application for Green Community Grants
The applications file for $250,000 in state grants.

CONCORD, MA—The Town of Concord has applied for $250,000 in State funding, otherwise known as the 'Green Community' Grant.
According to an announcement on the Town of Concord website, the town will use the grants to pay for 69 percent of costs associatiated with LED Lighting upgrades at five school buildings, both libraries, the wastewater treatment plant, and the Concord Municipal Light Plant (CMLP). The grants are through the Department of Energy Resources (DOER), which Concord became eligible for in 2013 when it became a 'Green Community.'
The remaining costs will be funded by CMLP rebates (23.5 percent), which leaves the town with 7.5 percent of the cost upgrades to be funded by the town. The town anticipates that the energy savings could save the the equivalent amount of carbon as 221 acres of forests sequester.

According to the office of Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, the state has already allotted nearly $29 million for Green Community grants.
