Concord Town Manager's Report: Police Officer Retires, Storm Causes Downed Tree Limbs

CONCORD, MA—Concord Town Manager Christopher Whelan has released his Mar. 7 report. Here are the highlights.

Inspector Richard Hodgson, a member of the Concord Police Department has retired, and the Town thanked him for his service. Hodgson has been a visible member of the community for decades, according to the report.

The Concord Fire Department responded to numerous downed wires and broken tree limbs during the morning of Feb. 25. The town urges residents that down wires should be considered live and should be left for the Concord Municipal Light Plant to make safe.

The Office of Veterans' Services assisted a local veteran obtaining a Medicare Supplement to be paid for through the Veterans' Chapter 115 benefit. The month of February was also "closed-out" with the Veterans' Services department in Boston, so that Concord would be able to be reimbursed 75 percent of the financial assistance it provided to residents.

The Concord Community Services office will be holding a Youth Mental Health First Aid USA Training session on Mar. 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The session teaches residents how to help an adolescent who is experiencing challenges with mental health, addictions or crisis situations. Registration is $10 and includes instruction, materials and a boxed lunch.

The Council on Aging is planning a trip to the Edward M. Kennedy Institute on Mar. 18. The cost is $46 per person.

The COA is also hosting a beach party on Mar. 22 from 1 to 3 p.m.
