Concord Town Meeting: Budgets, Landfill Remediations and More

Here's what happened at Town Meeting Monday.

CONCORD, MA—The inaugural session of the 2016 Concord Town Meeting was held Monday, and residents filled Concord-Carlisle Regional High School ready to attend.

Here's a brief rundown of the decisions made:

Article 7: Town meeting passed the Town Budget, presented by Town Manager Chris Whelan nearly unanimously Monday night. The town appropriated $2.8 million for general government expenses, $8.9 million for public safety and $4 million for public works, among other expenses.

Article 11: Town Meeting passed a $35.6 million budget for the Concord Public Schools.

Article 12: Town Meeting approved a $870,000 series of renovation projects at various public school facilities. The article passed nearly unanimously.

Article 13: Town Meeting passed a $20.7 million budget for the use of the Concord-Carlisle Regional School District. Once again, the article passed by a nearly unanimous vote.

Article 14: One of the more hotly contested articles discussed at Town Meeting, the Article that provides Concord's share of the cost for remediation of the landfill located on CCRSD land did not receive a majority vote at Town Meeting.

Article 15: The article that allows the town to construct a school transportation facility at 214 Y Main St. passed nearly unanimously through Town Meeting.

Article 16: The town voted to reconsider the school bus terminal location at either the CCHS property or the former landfill was voted affirmatively by Town Meeting.
