Film: Merchants of Doubt

Thursday, July 16th, 7pm, TriCon Church, 54 Walden St. Concord.

Ever wonder why there is so much confusion about the reality of climate

change? It’s not because the scientists are confused. Polls of thousands

confirm that the scientific consensus is around 97%. But somehow at

least half of the general public thinks that the facts are still undecided.

“Merchants of Doubt”, a 96-minute documentary by Robert Kenner

(who also directed the oscar-nominated Food, Inc.) is a brilliant,

entertaining, and satirical look at the climate denial machine that’s been

created by those who aim to delay or derail action on climate. Surprise!

It’s the same cast of characters - the very same people - as those who

successfully delayed action on tobacco a few decades back. And they

are using the exact same playbook.

Based on the ground-breaking book of the same name by science

historians Naomi Oreskes (a Carlisle resident) and Erik

Conway, Merchants of Doubt is a must-see for anyone concerned about

a livable future...climate activists, anyone who still wonders if perhaps

climate change isn’t really happening, or those curious about how the

public mind can be so effectively manipulated.

This film is co-sponsored by Concord Climate Action Network

(ConcordCAN!) and by the Metrowest Node of 350 Massachusetts in

lieu of its July meeting. It will be shown in the air-conditioned Parish Hall

of Trinitarian Congregational Church, 54 Walden Street in Concord on

Thursday, July 16th at 7pm. Doors will open at 6:30pm. The event is

free and open to all, but donations will be gratefully accepted.

ConcordCAN! (concordcan.org) supports sustainability and climate

action at the town level.

The 350 Massachusetts Metrowest Node

(metrowest@350MA.org and https://www.facebook.com/350MAMetrow

estNode ) is part of the statewide group, 350 Massachusetts for a Better

Future. It holds monthly public meetings for climate action usually on the

first Thursday of the month with locations changing to accommodate

citizens throughout the metrowest.
