Outcasts and Others: Hardscrabble Lives in Concord, Tuesday, July 12, 7:00

The People of Concord Summer Lecture Series begins this Tuesday, bringing to life the people who called Concord home in Thoreau's time. On Tuesday, July 12, the Museum presents Outcasts and Others: Hardscrabble Lives in Concord.
Thoreau said in Walden that a laborer’s life was the one for him. It is doubtful that many local laborers or the women who toiled in the cotton and woolen factory in West Concord would say the same.
Historian and author Robert Gross, Professor Emeritus at the University of Connecticut, takes a look at the ordinary men and women who worked hard to survive in their daily lives at a time when many of Concord’s famous writers and speakers were on the world stage. Free. Reserve online at www.concordmuseum.org or call 978-369-9763, ext. 216.
