Born in Concord, Mary Moody Emerson (1774-1863) was the aunt of Transcendentalist Ralph Waldo Emerson and a brilliant intellectual in her own right, recognized as such by Bronson Alcott and Henry Thoreau. In this talk, Sandra Petrulionis, Distinguished Professor of English and American Studies at Pennsylvania State University, Altoona, will discuss Mary Emerson's long history with Concord and her significance to American women's intellectual history.
