Le Nuove Musiche -- Italy’s “New” Music, Aug 21 in Concord

Tea-time concert of music for voices, recorders and organ.

Concordia Consort and friends explore Le Nuove Musiche — Italy’s "new" music int he Tuesday, August 21 tea-time recital at Trinity Episcopal Church, 81 Elm Street in Concord. The program begins in Trinity’s air-conditioned Parish Hall at 4 PM and will last about 35 minutes. Light refreshments follow the recital. $5 suggested donation supports this program. On-street parking is available. Trinity Episcopal Church is fully handicap-accessible.

Concordia Consort -- Sheila Beardslee, Bonnie Kelly, and Brian Warnock, recorders, ensemble in residence at Trinity Concord -- welcomes guests Harriet Bridges, soprano, Robert Barney tenor and organ, and William Leonard, bass, to this program.

The concert features Orazio Vecchi’s setting of Petrarch’s sestina Chi è fermato which tells of navigating life’s storms and tempests to arrive at a peaceful harbor of redemption. Robert Barney will play a Frescobaldi toccata on the S.L. Huntington chamber organ. Harriet Bridges sings Caccini’s Amarilli mia bella from his 1602 collection Le Nuove Musiche. The program ends with two delightful selections from Monteverdi’s Scherzi musicali.
