Local Boy Rescued from Icy Pond, Treated at Emerson
Police said a man swam into a frigid pond Wednesday to save a boy who fell through the ice.

CONCORD, MA — An Acton boy was rescued Wednesday from a frigid pond after falling through ice, police said.

Deputy Police Chief Richard Burrows said the 9-year-old boy was walking on an embankment when he slipped and crashed through ice into the water. A man who was walking by jumped into the pond, swam out to the boy, and pulled him to safety, police said. Another bystander also helped.
The boy was shaking and crying but otherwise OK, police said. He was treated at Emerson Hospital and released.
