Muslim Chaplain Mary Lahaj to speak in Concord, Jan 24 at 9 AM

Trinity Episcopal Church welcomes Muslim Chaplain Mary Lahaj as the Adult Forum speaker on Sunday, January 24 at 9 AM. All welcome.

Trinity Episcopal Church’s Adult Forum welcomes Muslim Chaplain Mary Lahaj as its guest speaker on Sunday, January 24 at 9 AM. The Adult Forum at Trinity is open to all in the community.

Even though most Muslims don’t celebrate Christmas (though some of us — especially American Muslims — do), Mary the mother of Jesus is mentioned more times in the Qu’ran than in the entire New Testament. During this forum, Chaplain Lahaj will discuss the important figures of Jesus and Mary, and how they are understood and revered in Islam.

Mary Lahaj was the first Muslim female chaplain on staff at Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Simmons College and the Groton School. She holds a Master’s degree in Religious Studies from the Hartford Seminary, studied Middle East history at Harvard University and currently works as a freelance writer. Her family has been practicing Islam in America for more than 100 years since migrating from Lebanon. They helped found the oldest mosque in New England (1964) where her grandfather was the first Imam.

Trinity Episcopal Church is located at 81 Elm Street in Concord. The Adult Forum meets in the Parish Hall at 9 AM, followed by the 10 AM service in the Main Sanctuary. All in our community are invited to attend.

For further information on Trinity Episcopal Church’s activities, please call the Parish Office, 978/369-3715, or visit Trinity’s web page to download The Window, our weekly newsletter.
