Still Making History 121 Years Later
United Woman's Club of Concord begins it's new season - 2016/17
For more than a century, the Town of Concord had two Women’s Clubs - Concord’s & West Concord’s – both of which served this community as educational, philanthropic and social entity. Since these organizations merged in 2008 to form the United Woman’s Club of Concord (UWCC), the new club has endeavored to the same.
As the original members intended, the UWCC continues to create opportunities for women to share information, enjoy fellowship and discuss world affairs. The ladies of previous generations were, like present day members are, your neighbors – many of whom taught in the Concord schools, worked at Emerson Hospital, in Town offices, and served on several of the non-profit boards here. The club always welcomes new members.
On Thursday, September 15th at the West Concord Union Church, the UWCC will resume its monthly meetings, each featuring an interesting program. At the first assembly, Fran Gardella, erstwhile president and constant mainstay of the club will reflect on Woman’s Clubs past and present. Local historian Charlie Simpson will follow, talking about his extensive photograph collection depicting scenes and the industrial beginnings of an earlier Concord.

The primary mission of the United Woman’s Club of Concord continues to be raising money for scholarships which it offers each year to Concord-Carlisle High School graduates. Funds for the awards are generated at the club’s annual jewelry sale at Concord’s Picnic in the Park on July 4th and at its annual holiday fair to be held this year on Saturday, December 3rd at the Harvey Wheelers Community Center. Funds are also realized from a used book corner at Crosby’s Market and from a seasonal sale of hand knit mittens at the West Concord Pharmacy. As always, the club appreciates the ongoing support of all who help us in our mission,
