Kangas will be attending the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. During her high school years, Kangas distinguished herself as a high honor student and as an activist, who has both managed and run on the indoor and outdoor track teams and who has served as co-president of the Wellness Committee. Through her volunteer work at Willard Elementary School, her role as assistant soccer coach at the Concord middle schools and her work at Gaining Ground, she is a three year recipient of the Presidential Community Service Award. At UMass, Kangas, the daughter of Laura Kangas, hopes to continue her community service and to focus on one of her many interests.

Four years ago, Piz, the daughter of Margaret Piz, was honored as the outstanding Sanborn Middle School student. And at Concord-Carlisle Regional High School, she has consistently attained high honors, received academic awards and was chosen to attend regional and statewide scholastic, cultural and humanitarian events. Piz has served as an officer in CCHS’ chapter of the National Honor Society, has represented her class for two years in the student senate and has tutored students in various age groups. She has participated in school musicals. She attends Holy Family Parish and serves as a lector and peer minister. Piz will be entering the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester where she will pursue a career in international relations.

On scholarship interview night, Wilbur revealed that when he stepped on the campus of Wheaton College in Norton, he just knew he wanted to enroll there. Thus, one day, Wilbur, son of Bonny Wilbur, saves money for his higher education by continuing to work as a clubhouse attendant at Wedgewood Pines Country Club in Stow. At CCHS, he has served as History Club co-president and has been a DJ play by play broadcaster for various sports on the hiogh school radio station. Inducted as a junior into the National Honor Society, Wilbur has maintained high honor roll status throughout high school. He is also a member of Trinitarian Congregational Church where he preaches from its pulpit, participates in a discussion group and travels on church mission trips. At Wheaton, he will major in business.

Each year, the United Woman’s Club awards scholarships by raising money at two special events. On July 4 at the Concord’s Picnic in the Park, members work at jewelry tables. During the Christmastide on Dec. 5, the club holds its Holiday Scholarship Fair fundraiser at the Harvey Wheeler Center.
