During Senior Week at Concord-Carlisle High School, officers and

the education committee of the United Woman's Club of Concord feted the 2016 scholarship recipients - Katrina Schaaf, Edith Benedict, Mary Goode, and - at a luncheon.

Grants of $3,000 will be sent to each of the colleges that these young ladies will be entering in September.

Graduating from CCHS in 2015, Edith Benedict has spent a very busy gap year. She traveled to Singapore and interned in the American school there; she co-founded and is continuing to co-edit an online student publication focusing on academics. Little Sprouts Pre-school and has volunteered in the religious education program at First Parish. Benedict will begin her college years at Middlesex Community College where she will major in psychology.

Mary Goode, Class of 2016 at CCHS, maintained honor roll status all four years there, trained extensively, and participated in the performing arts and served for four years as president of her class in the National
Charity League. When her mother died last August after a lengthy illness, "life changed forever" for Mary, her two younger siblings, and her father. Despite this loss, Goode is determined to follow her dream and and will
attend Fordham Wniversity as a political science major.

Last week, Katrina Schaaf also graduated from CCHS. This recipient is from a family of three children, the daughters of Fred Schaaf. Because she endured the loss of her mother several years ago, Schaaf has
devoted time to mentoring other girls who have lost a parent. She has volunteered as a teaching assistant at Alcott Summer School, and has worked as a swim instructor and lifeguard at the Beede Center. An honor student at CCHS, Schaaf has enrolled in the nursing program at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with hopes of one day becoming a maternity nurse.
