Youth Choral Evensong at Trinity Episcopal Church, Dec 2 at 5 pm

Music by Bairstow, Barney, Tunder, and Anglican chant

The Youth Choir of Trinity Episcopal Church will sing Choral Evensong for Advent under the direction of Robert Barney on Sunday, December 2 at 5 pm in Trinity's intimate chapel at 81 Elm Street in Concord, MA.

The music will include "Preces and Responses" by Robert Barney; Anglican chant settings of Psalms 11, 112 and 113; "Magnificat" and "Nunc dimittis" by early 20th century English composer Edward Cuthbert Bairstow, and a setting of "Wake, awake for night is flying" by 17th-century German composer Franz Tunder.

The service of Choral Evensong, "the jewel of the Anglican Communion," is unique to the Anglican tradition. The body of music that has been written for this special liturgy is immense and spans over 500 years and a myriad number of composers. Anglican and Episcopal parishes around the globe are offering up sung prayer daily, weekly, monthly, or as often as their choirs can learn the musical settings. Some people call it a concert, but it is really a dialogue of prayer between officiant and choir, at the same time it is a conversation begun and continuing between the creator and the created.
