SALEM, MA — One of the two women charged after they fought on Route 128 in Danvers last month pleaded not guilty to the charges last week. Catherine A. Bergen, 33, of Gloucester, appeared in Salem District Court last Thursday, a week before her scheduled arraignment. She and Susan Lavoie, 64, of Beverly, made national headlines after video of their confrontation went viral online.
According to the Salem News, Judge Shelley Joseph agreed to a request by Bergen's attorney to move the arraignment date up. She was released without bail, but ordered to not drive or have contact with Lavoie. She has been charged with assault and battery on a person over 60 causing injury, driving recklessly to endanger, assault, disorderly conduct, and stopping/parking on a state highway.
Lavoie has been charged with assault and battery and disorderly conduct, and was scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday. Neither woman was injured in the incident.
