Dedham Firefighter Promoted to Lieutenant

Jared Blaney was sworn in during a recent selectmen's meeting.

DEDHAM, MA — A nine-year veteran of the Dedham Fire Department is now a lieutenant.

During last week's selectmen meeting, Jared Blaney was sworn in by Assistant Town Manager Nancy Baker. The pinning was performed by his daughter.

Blaney comes from a family of firefighters. His father retired in 2012 and his bother has been on the job for five years. He is the most recent recipient of the Chief Harrigan Medal of Honor for his actions during a major fire last year.

After the ceremony, the board wished him well.

"To put the time into studying and achieve the rank of lieutenant at a young age is a testimony to your commitment, ability to retain information, and the scarifies you made," Selectman James MacDonald said.
