Dedham Gets State Grant For East Street Corridor Plan

DEDHAM, MA — A state grant will help Dedham begin planning the future of a key corridor near the Westwood town line.

Dedham received a $50,000 Planning Assistance Grant from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs to develop the East Street Corridor Plan, the town announced Monday. The study will cover East Street from the Endicott Rotary to the Westwood line and recommend zoning changes and design guidelines based on public input.

East Street provides access to Route 128/I-95 and the Endicott and Dedham Corporate Center commuter rail stations. The planning process will include an analysis of existing conditions and opportunities for residents to help shape a vision for the area.

The Planning Board plans to hire a consultant and appoint a nine-member advisory committee this fall. Six committee seats will be filled by Dedham residents, students, business owners or property owners, while the remaining seats will go to elected officials, according to the town.

Details about applying for the committee are expected to be released in the coming weeks.

A final draft will be submitted to the Planning Board, which may endorse the plan and propose zoning amendments based on its recommendations. The project is modeled after Dedham’s Bridge Street Corridor Plan, which was completed in 2024.

The state awarded about $1.34 million to 16 projects through its fiscal 2027 Planning Assistance Grant program. The grants support municipal land-use planning tied to housing, conservation and climate goals.

The East Street plan is expected to be completed by summer 2027.
