Dedham Native Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year

Recent Merrimack graduate and soccer standout Jenna Savi​ received the nomination Tuesday afternoon.

Dedham, MA — A Dedham native is has been nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year award.

Recent Merrimack graduate and soccer standout Jenna Savi received the nomination Tuesday afternoon.
Savi, who majored in political science, was also the recipient of the Athletic Department's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the College's Rafferty Award back at the campus' annual LEAD Awards in May, according to Merrimack College. As a senior, she garnered her third academic all-conference honor and was named an academic all-district selection for the second consecutive year.

On the field, she earned a spot on the NE-10 All-Conference First Team, two all-region honors and a spot on the All-New England team. She led the NE-10 in points and assists, while also ranking fifth in assists nationally. She also became the eighth player in program history to register 10 goals and 10 assists in a season. Those efforts helped the Warriors post a 12-6-3 mark last fall en route to an appearance in the NE-10 Semifinals and the ECAC Division II Tournament Semifinals.

The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors graduating female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletics excellence, service, and leadership. Student-athletes are nominated only once in their career by their school.

The 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year winner will be announced on Oct. 16.
