Dedham Police Conduct Alcohol Sting Operation at 44 Licensed Locations

The Bamboo restaurant was the only one caught serving to a minor.

The Dedham Police Department this week released the results of a recent string of alcohol compliance checks conducted during the last several months.

Police conducted the checks at 44 licensed locations throughout town, where two local college students currently enrolled in criminal justice programs served as operatives. Both were instructed not to wear clothing that would make them appear older than their actual age; police administered a breathalyzer test before and after the operation as recommended by guidelines from the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission. Neither student was allowed to have any identification available.

The Bamboo Restaurant at the Holiday Inn in Dedham was the only business to be caught serving to a minor.

At 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, police officers drove the operative, who is 19 years old, to the Bamboo Restaurant. He then entered the front door of the Bamboo restaurant, and at 3:55 p.m. exited and explained that he was served a Bud Light by a female bartender without a request for identification.

Officers then entered the restaurant and saw a full bottle of the beer on the bar where the operative said it would be. Police then spoke with the bartender and that she had sold to a minor; management was unavailable at the time of the incident and officers left contact information.
