Marijuana, Manor Fields, New Public Safety Building Top Special Town Meeting Warrant

Town Meeting members will have 19 articles to vote on when they meet Nov. 13 for the Special Town Meeting.

DEDHAM, MA — Town Meeting members will have 19 articles to vote on when they meet Nov. 13 for the Special Town Meeting.

This year's warrant includes a proposal to spend $14 million to equip Manor Fields with playing fields, courts, a dog park, concessions, walking trails, parking and more.

If approved, Article 8 will prohibit the operation of all non-medical marijuana establishments in Dedham, including cultivators, independent testing laboratories, product manufacturers, and retailers. The article does not make it illegal to possess marijuana or to grow it in-home. Article 9 defines what marijuana establishments are. Both articles were proposed by the board of selectmen.

Article 12 would allow for the formation of a human rights commission, which would consist of 13 members and develop community awareness and education of human rights, promote understanding of the diverse cultures within town, and promote the cooperation of racial, religious, ethnic, civic, fraternal, benevolent and private and public organizations and agencies.

Other articles call for approving the funding for the Blue Hills Technical High School renovation, an increase in the reduction that can be earned through the senior tax work off program, and funding for the construction of the combined public safety building at the current Town Hall site.
