Missing Statue Connects 2 Dedham Families

A long forgotten statue in memory of a three-year-old has been refurbished and brought back outside.

DEDHAM, MA - A statue that has been missing since the 50s had connected two Dedham families.

As a 6-year-old in the 1930s, Don O'Neil lost his three-year-old sister when she was struck by an ice truck. In her memory, the O’Neil family dedicated a statue to her at St. Mary’s School.

In the 1950s, however, the school was demolished and the statue went missing until recently.

Student John Williams told FOX25 that he found the statue in St. Mary’s basement, telling the network that the statue was in pretty bad shape when it found it. Williams refurbished the memory of O’Neil’s sister as part of an Eagle Scout project and once again it stands.

O’Neil, now 86, said Williams did a tremendous job and hopes that the status outlasts us all.
