Over $600 in Merchandise Stolen, Vehicle Smashes into Barrier, and More: Dedham Police Log

March 14
10:55 a.m. - A vehicle that failed to stop for a red light near Bob’s Furniture on Route 1 struck a vehicle and came to rest on the jersey barrier.
7:07 p.m. - Stolen bushes were reported.

8:47 p.m. - A vehicle break-in was reported on Providence Highway.

9:27 p.m. - A vehicle break-in was reported on Providence Highway.
March 15
2:45 p.m. - A driver on Washington Street was struck from behind as she was stopping for two pedestrians crossing the street. The operator of the second vehicle said he attempted to stop but his car slid due to wet pavement.
5:28 p.m. - Police responded to a report of an unwanted person on Providence Highway who was a suspect in a shoplifting incident earlier in the day. The man, identified as James Burke, was informed by police that he was suspected of shoplifting about $600 in merchandise. When he was asked to remove his hands from his sweatshirt front pockets, police found two razors in his waistband. Police also discovered a digital thermometer. When asked why he was carrying it inside his sock, Burke replied that it kept falling out of his pocket. Burke was placed under arrested and booked at the police station.
March 16
10:38 a.m. - Police responded to a reported shoplifting at a store on Providence Highway. A loss prevention employee said during the previous evening, the suspect took about $434.48 worth of merchandise off the shelves and then returned the items at the customer service desk. The suspect was issued a store merchandise card for the return. Police will be seeking charges against the suspect.
