Police Log: Crews Respond to Report of Suspicious-Looking Backpack

The following information was provided by the Dedham Police Department. Where arrests are mentioned, they do not indicate conviction.

Monday, Feb. 17

At 11:15 a.m., Dedham Police received a report of a suspicious green or brown backpack spotted on top of a trash can in the area of Eastern Avenue. The Dedham Fire Department responded and found no package in the area.

At 3:16 p.m., police responded to BJ's Wholesale on Providence Highway on a report of a hit-and-run accident involving a vehicle that had been allegedly struck while parked. A witness showed police the suspect's vehicle, which reportedly had new damage to its front bumper consistent with the vehicle that was allegedly struck. The suspect was described as an elderly man. 

At 4:50 p.m., police responded to Walgreen's on Providence Highway on a report of larceny. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the store manager, who noticed nail polish had been missing from a display case. According to surveillance footage viewed by the manager and police, at 3:44 p.m., two females allegedly entered the store and walked over to the cosmetics section and were seen taking about 30 bottles of nail polish valued at $8 per bottle, before leaving the store. The matter is under investigation.

Wednesday, Feb. 19

At 1:10 p.m., police responded to a report of a suspicious person who had been seen taking photos of a residence while inside a black Honda Pilot. Police were able to locate the driver, who said he works for a bank and was a real estate appraiser and was taking pictures of several properties in the area. 

At 4:12 p.m., police charged Shavon Forbes, 19, of Dedham for destruction of property resulting in more than $250 of malicious damage and resisting arrest. 

Saturday, Feb. 22

At 5:23 a.m., police charged Donald Mykulak, 24, of Medfield for driving under the influence of liquor, a marked lanes violation and for failing to stop for police. 

At 6:55 p.m., police arrested a 38-year-old West Roxbury woman on seven outstanding warrants. 

At 8:04 p.m., police respond to Sears on a report of a shoplifter. Upon arrival officers met with the store's loss prevention department who claimed that one individual allegedly took possession of two bracelets with an approximate value of $99 each, totaling $200 in value; police subsequently charged the customer with shoplifting.
