Should Dedham Move Forward With the Rail Trail?
A supporter and opponent of the issue recently sounded off.

DEDHAM, MA — A proposal to turn an unused rail line in Dedham into a park and trail for biking and running is drawing support and opposition.
Recently, the Boston Globe looked at both sides of the rail trail issue, asking if Dedham should move ahead with the Dedham Heritage Rail Trail, a proposal to make a trail from Dedham Square to East Dedham.
Dr. John F. Dashe, a member of Friends of Dedham Heritage Rail Trail, said the trail would promote healthy choices and make the town more attractive to young adults. He says that once the town invests in design and engineering plans, the rest of the costs would be covered by state and federal grants.

Concerned neighbors on the trail would be protected by a 15-foot buffer on both sides, he said.
On the other side of the issue, resident Tina Whalen said the trail would infringe on the privacy of abutters and possibly lead to an increase in noise. She notes that the feasibility study has cost the town $10,000 and is incomplete.
