Westwood Resident Struck by Vehicle in Dedham

The victim suffered serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 45-year-old Westwood woman was struck by a motor vehicle while crossing a street on Wednesday in Dedham.

Dedham Police reported to Ruscraft Road where the victim was struck while in a crosswalk, according to a press release by the Dedham Police. The woman was conscious but had sustained serious injuries, police say. She was transported to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

The operator of the vehicle was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, according to the release.

Dedham Police Chief Michael d’Entremont urged the community to exercise caution while driving, crossing streets and traversing parking lots.

“This is one of the busiest time of the year for traveling, and we know residents are excited to get home to celebrate the holidays,” Chief d’Entremont said in the release. “However, please take your time getting to your destination, especially at night and if there is inclement weather. Both drivers and pedestrians should remember to remain alert of their surroundings at all times to ensure they’re safe and accidents do not occur.”
