Soaring to new levels for DS Cheer Team
cheer camp has prepared the DS cheer team for an exciting fall season
In preparation for the 2012 Dover Sherborn High School fall season, the DS cheer team and coaches spent the past week at an intensive cheer training camp organized by the UCA, Universal Cheerleaders Association at Mt. Ida College in Newton. One of the missions of the UCA camp per the Advisor handbook is “to prepare you to serve your campus community by involving crowds and creating spirit for your athletic program and school.”
To this end our girls along with several other teams from across the Northeastern States and as far as Canada participated in classes taught by UCA coaches to learn safety tips, stunting methods and techniques as well as school spirit building activities. Workshops were led under the direction of UCA instructors who demonstrated stunting techniques as well as choreography ideas to create effective cheers. Many new and fun sideline cheers were introduced to keep up the school spirit.

In addition to the planned programs there was time to meet with the other teams for social events including a B-B-Q and a beach bash. Each team also had the opportunity to share a prepared routine and sideline cheers for a full evaluation. It was rewarding to hear how impressed the UCA coaches were with the DS program. Although the first game will be one month away from the last day of camp, the team will continue to practice before the official season and be ready to take on new heights for the first home game on September 7.
