The Rise and Fall of Dover-Sherborn Girls Soccer
DEFENDING STATE CHAMPS PULL 5 LOCAL HIGH SCHOOL COACHES TO WATCH THE GREATEST MATCH-UP YET, OUR RIVALS MEDFIELD.
Wait, wait! The Fall and Rise of DSGS! Last Friday night, the Dover-Sherborn girls soccer team played Medfield high school for a first match-up of the season. Even though Medfield (4-0-0) is our rival, the girls came in to dominate this D2 powerhouse. We were able to keep them to a holt until it came to an end. Medfield was able to push to the top 1-0 keeping their TVL record undefeated in the second half to win. Last year, Medfield would take the TVL league Championship and Dover-Sherborn would win the States 2011. This was the game to watch! According to Head Coach Dave Wainright, DS hosted 5 high school coaches to come watch this match including Needham Head Coach and Westwood's Head Coach. But DS has another try, to beat Medfield on 10/15/12 on Medfield's home turf.
So onward and upward, the girls played Bellingham (1-3-1) at their home field in a miriad of weather. The girls were able to pull an easy win and coach was able to get depth from his bench. Senior Captain #4 Victoria Ortega would notch an unaasisted goal in the first half and Senior #27 Taylor Coutts would chip the ball in the back of the net for her first Varsity goal of the season. In the second half of the game Freshman #22 Caitlin Balmer would feed an easy ball to #11 Sophomore Alex White for the third and final goal in the second half. DSGS would go on to win 3-0!
Senior Captain #5 Julia Perlmutter would gather a shut out victory with 13 big saves against Bellingham.
