High school football notebook: Michael Walsh, Everett weather road test by going deep, twice (bostonglobe.com) — Everett High's football team pulled out a gritty road win over BC High, rallying in the fourth quarter behind quarterback Michael Walsh's deep touchdown pass and key special teams plays. Coach Rob DiLoreto praised the Tide's resilience in windy conditions, especially after a tough loss the previous week, as Everett's defense and offensive line stepped up to secure the 2-1 start.
   

2. Massachusetts approves $96 million car-free Mystic River bridge (thecooldown.com) — Everett is set to gain a new $96 million car-free bridge over the Mystic River, linking the Encore area to Somerville's Draw Seven Park and MBTA connections. With construction expected to take about three years, the project should give local walkers and cyclists a safer, more direct route to transit and regional trails, despite higher-than-expected construction costs.
   

3. Massachusetts West Nile Cases Climb to 11 as Boston and 10 Nearby Communities Stay at High Risk (medicaldaily.com) — Everett is currently classified as a high-risk community for West Nile virus, with state health officials warning that danger will last until the first hard frost. Residents, especially older adults, are urged to use EPA-registered repellents, avoid dusk-to-dawn exposure when possible, and regularly clear standing water around their homes to reduce mosquito breeding and protect vulnerable neighbors.
   

4. Sprawling $12 Million Fraud And Money Laundering Scheme Has A Nantucket Connection (newsbreak.com) — A man from Everett is among four people federally indicted in a sprawling scheme that allegedly stole and laundered more than $13 million through fake Treasury checks and bank fraud. Prosecutors say the group used shell companies, luxury watch purchases, and a Nantucket real estate loan to hide the money, with some suspects still detained as the case moves forward.
   

5. Saints Cosmas and Damian Society Travels to Gaeta for the Festa! (thesomervillenewsweekly.blog) — An Everett-based state senator just received a special honor in Gaeta, Italy, where he was named an Ambassador to Gaeta during a weekend of celebrations for Saints Cosmas and Damian. Local families there shared ties to Massachusetts, and members of the Somerville and Cambridge society even carried the saints in a major procession, marking the group's first large overseas visit.
