2 Falmouth Officers Receive Police Medal Of Honor
Ryan Moore and Donald DeMiranda received the Medal of Honor for Bravery after they were shot last year during a Falmouth investigation.

FALMOUTH, MA — Two Falmouth police officers were recognized for their bravery by police officers across the the state at the 36th Annual Trooper George L. Hanna Memorial Awards for Bravery. Officers Ryan Moore and Donald DeMiranda received the Medal of Honor.
On July 27, 2018, Moore and DeMiranda were shot while investigating a report of a man breaking bottles on Ashley Drive in East Falmouth. Authorities said Malik Koval, 21, became agitated when the officers confront him, so he ran into his house, grabbed a gun and shot Moore and DeMiranda
The two officers have been on the force for about six years.

The officers were recognized during a ceremony Oct. 18 at the Massachusetts State House.
The awards ceremony was named after Hanna, who was killed in 1983 when he was shot during a traffic stop in Auburn. Falmouth police in a Facebook statement recognized the officers' awards as a great honor.

"The Hanna Awards, which have been held annually since 1983, have become a symbol of prestige, within both the law enforcement community and the Commonwealth as a whole," police said. "It's an opportunity to publicly recognize the bravery of members of the law enforcement community who put their lives on the line by dedicating themselves to safety throughout Massachusetts."
