Boston Bruins Honor Falmouth's James Lavin, Owen Higgins
Falmouth High School star athletes James Lavin and Owen Higgins were killed in a crash as they drove home from hockey practice.
BOSTON, MA — The Boston Bruins honored Falmouth's James Lavin and Owen Higgins during the team's home game Saturday afternoon against the Buffalo Sabres. Lavin and Higgins, star athletes at Falmouth High School, were killed in a crash December 22 as they drove home from hockey practice.
The Bruins featured jerseys with the boys' names on their bench.
"The Bruins offer their thoughts and condolences to the Falmouth High School hockey team and the Falmouth community during this difficult time," the Bruins said in a statement.

Lavin and Higgins, 17, were best friends since childhood.
Over $120,000 in donations have poured in for scholarships in their memory.

"It was a very tragic incident," Falmouth police Chief Edward Dunne said. "It's affected the whole community."
Lavin was "the best person we knew," his family said, and Higgins "lit up life," according to his.
Lavin and Higgins played football and in December they led Falmouth High School to a state title.
Classmates have held several memorial gatherings to honor the pair.
"The most important thing we can do for our children is be supportive," Falmouth schools Superintendent Nancy Taylor said.
