Cape Cod Man Barricades Himself In Apartment, Faces Assault Charges

A local man will face three assault and battery on a police officer charges after the standoff, which prompted a local stay-in-place order.

BOURNE, MA — Cape Cod police were able to take a local man to the hospital after he barricaded himself in his home, prompting a stay-in-place order for locals.

Around 11:15 a.m. on Monday, Bourne police responded to a High Meadow Circle apartment. Reports to police said a 42-year-old man in possession of a knife was said to be "intoxicated and threatening to harm himself."

The man made threats to shoot the responding officers with a firearm and then barricaded himself inside the residence, police said.

Over the next two hours, Bourne Police Department negotiators, Crisis Intervention Officers, and clinicians from Bay Cove worked to communicate with the man, who was "erractic in his actions and statements."

Officers were eventually able to "gain control of the subject" and transfer him to an area hospital for an evaluation.

During the interaction, the man, who was unnamed, assaulted two officers while at his home and a third officer while being transported to the hospital. Charges will be forthcoming for three charges of assault and battery on a police officer.

There were no firearms located at the residence.

Due to the volatile nature of the situation and the potential that a firearm was involved, a localized stay-in-place request was issued to the residents of High Meadow Circle for the duration of the incident.
